We’re fully behind Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘Go Sober for October’ campaign (https://www.gosober.org.uk). Living in the heart of Hackney, we recognise it’s super HARD to escape the temptations of locally brewed ales and other libations. So, we’re (ever-so casually) suggesting to all our personal training clients to join in and help this worthy cause, whilst helping them reach their fitness programme goals too.
Summer Of Drinking? Get In shape This Autumn 2019
If you’ve succumbed to a Summer of partying in Hackney perhaps now is the time to think about fitness before the Christmas season (and further temptation!) draws in.
Simply the recommended safe amount of alcohol per week (14 units) is enough to pack on 700 or so extra calories. That’s nearly half a day’s worth of extra food per week. If you’ve just started a fitness programme with us, combining a reduction in these ’empty calories’ with high intensity workouts will really give you some great results.
A Whole Month… What Can I Drink?
Don’t be too scared. There’s plenty of options out there to help you through a whole month (yes – 4 weeks, yes – 30 days and 30 nights!) off the sauce. Here’s our round-up of some great non-alcoholic beverages available at your nearest Hackney bar:
Seedlip – for the spirits connoisseur:
This non–alcoholic drink from Seedlip is one of the best on the market. It’s made like gin with herbs, but it is definitely not a gin. The main flavour is clove not juniper, and, most importantly, it has no alcohol!
Brewdog Nanny State – for the pale ale enthusiast:
The Scottish ale masters have dreamt up a rocky little number. So much flavour! For a “craft” low-alcohol beer this is our pick of the crop. Tastes just like the real thing. Coke pun not intended.
Rawsons Cabernet – for the wine nose:
Made by Australian wine company Penfold’s, this has a dark spicy taste, and scarily tastes just like wine. There’s some acidity, body and it’s not too sweet. Less than 0.5% alcohol.
Square Root – for the G n’ T lover:
Square Root London, based in Hackney, make soft drinks from natural ingredients. The non alcoholic G&T is delightful, and gives all the kick without the alcohol included.
Jeffrey’s Yarrow syrup – for the sophisticated crowd:
This syrup is brilliant. Just add carbonated water. Play around with bitters, lemon and lime for a distinct cocktail. With a host of flavours, it’ll satisfy your eager tastebuds.
